По мнению Хьюз, профессиональные футболистки получают слишком маленькую зарплату по сравнению с мужчинами. Откровенной формой британка надеется привлечь внимание болельщиков и спонсоров, что улучшит материальное положение спортсменок.
В пример Хьюз привела теннис, где женщины играют в «женской одежде» и получают деньги, соизмеримые с доходами мужчин. Она также отметила, что подобные футбольные лиги уже существуют в США, Австралии и Канаде, где пользуются большой популярностью.
23 декабря состоится первая в Великобритании игра между двумя женскими командами в нижнем белье. Встреча пройдет на футбольном поле, расположенном на крыше одного из отелей в Манчестере.
В январе 2004 года президент Международной федерации футбола (ФИФА) Йозеф Блаттер предложил женщинам-футболистам выходить на поле в более откровенной форме. Швейцарец посчитал, что данный шаг повысит популярность этого вида спорта.
